ⓘ Orleans (electoral district)

Orleans is a federal electoral district in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988.

Riding was created as "Carleton - Gloucester" in 1987. Its name was changed to "Gloucester - Carleton" in 1996, but then changed to "Carleton–Gloucester" in 1997. He was again amended in 2000 to "Ottawa - orléans" and "orléans" in 2013.

Despite the English-speaking majority, the Orleans is one of the French Federal districts of Ontario, and is a major centre of the Franco-Ontario community. According to the statistical report for 2001 in Canada, 35% of the population speaks French as a native language. In recent years, the drive has experienced significant population growth and increased housing construction.

In the Federal election of 2004, the candidate of the Liberal party mark Godby defeated the Conservative candidate Walter Robinson more than 4% of the vote. Robinson, a former President of the Canadian Federation of taxpayers, considered the favorite, but failed to win support among Francophones. Ottawa - Orleans was also a riding where the NDP had a candidate Canadas young woman, Crystal LeBlanc, who received 5905 votes in the Federal election of 2004.
