Eastern Health is the largest integrated health authority in Newfoundland and Labrador. The organization provides a full continuum of health and community services, including public health, long-term care, and acute care to a regional population of more than 300.000.

In addition to regional programs and services, Eastern health is responsible for provincial higher education medical services within the academic health institutions and provincial programs such as provincial genetics hyperbaric medicine and the provincial laboratory of public health. Eastern health also partnered with numerous organizations – primarily Memorial University and College of the North Atlantic – to educate future medical professionals, conduct research, increase knowledge and improve the General condition of the patient, client, and child care.

Eastern health budget of about $ 1.4 billion for the 2014-15 financial year, with 13.000 employees and 730 doctors and about 1500 volunteers. Similarly, Eastern health benefits from the efforts of its six funds and various excipients.

Eastern health is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees appointed by the Minister of health and social services under the Law On local health authorities.

The geographical boundaries of Eastern health include the island portion of the province East of and including port Blandford. This area includes the entire avalon, Burin and Bonavista of the Peninsula and the island Belle, a total of 21.000 km2.

The area region includes the communities:

  • Burin Peninsula. (Полуостров Бурин)
  • Bonavista Peninsula. (Полуострова Бонависта)
  • Avalon Peninsula. (Авалон Полуостров)
