2.1. Music Tracklist

The album received positive reviews upon its release. Behindwoods rated the album 3.25 out of 5, stating "Master is for masses - Anirudhs music is full of mass appeal as can be expected for a Vijay biggie!" OnlyKollywood rated the album 3.75 out of 5, with a statement "Master brings a set of variant, stylish numbers in one bag, resulting in a splendid album that is hard to stay away from. There’s a great balance of motivation and elevation, and it has been meticulously strung together by Anirudh, who makes winning choices for the renditions. In an album that is almost devoid of love songs, built on a mass image and features a long list of tracks, Anirudh has succeeded in keeping our attention knit together and ultimately delivering what was promised as well. Though one may take some time to warm up to some of the songs, they are truly here to stay." Indiaglitz gave 3.75/5 and quoted "The culmination of good composition, lyrics and singers make the album remarkably entertaining and highly listenable." Moviecrow rated the album 3.5 out of 5, stating that "Anirudh easily delivered his best among his recent outings for the mass films with the vibrant soundtrack led by Vaathi Raid."

5. Controversies

On 5 February 2020, the Income Tax Department raided Vijays residence in Chennai and inquired about potential tax evasion, regarding his investment in immovable properties which he inherited from the production studio AGS Entertainment. Vijay was investigated when he was busy shooting for Master in Neyveli. Nearly ₹ 65 crore was seized by the officials from the AGS Entertainment producer Anbu Cheliyans residence. Later, the I-T department said that nothing significant was found during the raid and Vijay has paid all taxes. Member of the parliament Dayanidhi Maran accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party BJP of politically targeting Vijay through IT raids because he was critical of the BJP.

On 7 February 2020, members of the BJP protested in front of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation NLC where the shooting of Master was going on. The BJP members protested against the NLC administration for granting permission for the shoot. Although the film crew had obtained permission for the shoot, the members of the B.J.P. claimed that it is a highly secured area and its not a place for a movie shoot and also threatened to continue their protests if the shooting did not stop. Soon, Vijays fans started to arrive in numbers and protested against the party workers. The protesters and the fans left after intervention by the police.
