Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee or Golrokh Iraee, born about 1980, is an Iranian writer, accountant and a human rights defender who advocates against the practice of stoning in Iran. She is currently A religious prisoner of conscious represented by Vice Chair Gayle Manchin.
Golrokh began serving a six-year term in October 2016 for insulting the sacred” and" propaganda against the state” after she wrote a story about the stoning. Iraee was released from prison on 3 January 2017, after a 71-day hunger strike by her husband, and protest on Twitter, that received international attention, but she was returned to prison on 22 January after the husband stopped the hunger strike.
Stoning to death is in dispute in Iran, and is often used against women. In 2010 has been strong international criticism of Iran over the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. Ashtiani was released in March 2014 after nine years on death row. Another Iranian woman, Fariba Khalegi, is considered in jail and threatened with stoning.
