ⓘ Traveller Book 5: High Guard

In 1980, Games Designer Workshop published High Guard, the fifth Traveller book. In its 52 pages, it outlines character and skill generation for space naval personnel, and details on how to construct large starships of up to a million tons.

In the may-June edition of the space gamer issue # 28, Forrest Johnson was not a fan, saying, "unfortunately, the new rules do violence to the system of book 2 and the laws of physics".

In August 1980 edition Dragon issue 40, Roberto Camino welcomes the addition of the large ships the traveler game, but noted, design solutions, and he called it dubious: the number of minor weapons do not increase at the same rate as the surface ships, so larger ships should have more firepower, in fact, have less "punch" than the smaller ships. Despite this, the Camino believes that the construction system "worked well".

In August-September 1980 edition of white dwarf 20, Bob McWilliams loved how increase in the size of the ship, as well as combat rules for naval fleets.
