The 1940 United States presidential election in Montana took place on November 5, 1940. Voters chose four representatives, or electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president.

Montana powerfully voted to give Democrats, President Franklin D. Roosevelt for an unprecedented third term over the Republican nominee, corporate lawyer Wendell willkie, a dark horse candidate who had never run for political office. Roosevelt won Montana by convincing 18.61% margin. As the presidential election of 2016 is the last election when in the following districts voted for a presidential candidate from the Democratic party: Broadwater, Madison, misery and Garfield.
