ⓘ Kumaon Kingdom

The Kunindas was the first ruling dynasty of Kumaon and reigned from 500 BCE to CE 600.

In 1791, the Gurkhas of Nepal expanding their Empire to the West across the Kali river, invaded Almora, the seat of the Kumaon Kingdom and other parts of the Kingdom. The Gurkhas were defeated by the East India company in the Anglo-Nepalese war and was forced to cede Kumaon in the UK in the framework of the Treaty of Sugauli in 1816. In the Kumaon region, was registered with the Eastern half of the Garhwal region and is regulated as a chief-administrator post, also known as the province of Kumaon, about the refusal to regulate the system. In seventy years it is governed by three successive administrators: Mr. Traill, Mr J. H. batten and Sir Henry Ramsay. The British established a small administrative unit to control the region, known as Patwari Halka.
