ⓘ Mumbai Pune Expressway

The Mumbai Pune Expressway is Indias first six-lane concrete, high-speed, access controlled tolled expressway. It spans a distance of 94.5 km connecting Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra state and the financial capital of India, with Pune, the cultural and educational capital of Maharashtra. The expressway, which was fully operationalized in 2002, introduced new levels of speed and safety in automobile transportation to Indian roads. It is one of Indias busiest roads.

The highway begins in Kalamboli in Mumbai and it ends at Kiwale in Pune. He cuts through the scenic views of Sahyadri ranges via passes and tunnels. It has five interchanges: Kon Shedung, Chowk, Khalapur, Kusgaon and Talegaon highway has two carriageways, each with three concrete lanes divided by a Central partition and an asphalt or concrete shoulder on each side. Pedestrians, two-wheelers, three vehicles, wagons and tractors are not permitted, although tractor trailers are permitted drilling rigs. Vehicles also do not stop on the motorway. Speed handles about 43.000 of the project offices daily and is designed to handle up to 1.00.000 project offices.

Speed reduced the time from Kalamboli in Mumbai in Kiwale in Pune about two hours. It largely complements the Mumbai-Pune section of NH 48, which had become extremely congested and accident-prone.

The chord is not part of a network of highways NHAI NKh 48 and was constructed, operated and maintained entirely by the government of Maharashtra through Maharashtra State road development Corporation. NH 48 is a separate old national highway.
