Brachioradial pruritus is an intense itching sensation of the arm usually between the wrist and elbow of either or both arms. The itch can be so intense that sufferers will scratch their own skin to a bleeding condition.

The condition is becoming more common, presenting in patients who are typically fair-skinned and of middle age and indulge in Golf, tennis, table tennis outdoors, Sailing, or other outdoor activity in the fresh air in Sunny weather.

The reason for this is unknown, Although there are several lines of thought about what causes it. No cure has been discovered, but good control with almost 100% relief can be achieved. Intense itching / scratching cycle can be broken by application of topical skin cooling gel like Biofreeze or substances containing menthol, camphor and other relevant coolant affects the itchy areas, then consistent application of 100 SPF sunscreen on the affected skin areas of the arms, shoulders, neck, etc., whenever they should be in the sun. In combination, these procedures can bring about almost complete relief.
