★ Audi RS 4
Audi RS 4 is a high-performance version from the Audi A4 production Audi sports GmbH for Audi AG, part of the Volkswagen group. It slots distinctly above the Audi S4 as the fastest, most sports-oriented cars based on А4с "B" automobile platform. The RS 4 made a comeback in 2012 in avant form, is based on the A4 avant.
The original B5 version was produced only as avant, Audis name for a sedan / wagon. The second version, the B7, was released initially as a four-door five-seat sedan / station wagon, with the avant following a little later. Was later added a two-door four-seater convertible version. Furthermore, their unique internal combustion engines are all front, and orientated longitudinally. The transmission is immediately mounted at the rear of the engine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle, and contains the center and front differential.
"RS" initials are taken from the German: RennSport - literally translated as "sport" and "Audi" Marquez is the highest trim level, positioned above the specification "S" model in Audis regular model range. Like all Audi "RS" cars, the RS 4 pioneers some of Audis latest advanced technology, and can therefore be described as "halo vehicles". In addition, it is only available with Audis Torsen-based "trademark" quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.
Its main competitors on the market are the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Lexus IS-F and Cadillac CTS-V.

- "Sideguard", Audis curtain airbag system.
2. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. (В7 тип 8Э, 2006-2008)
No RS 4 built on the platform Audi "B6", which served as the basis for the Audi A4 between 2001 and 2005. However, after a long hiatus, the second Audi RS 4 Quattro type 8E, was built on Audis "B7" A4 platform, by quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm, Germany. It was opened in February 2005 at Audi Quattro night celebration in the headquarters of the company in Ingolstadt, Germany.
The RS 4 was available for European customers in mid-2006. It was introduced at the 2006 North American international auto show in January, and arrived in June 2006 in North America. On the production line B7 RS 4 was from 2006 to 2008 inclusive, although only 2007 and 2008 model years sold in the United States. To date, approximately 10.000 B7 RS 4S have been built, of which about 2.000 in the United States.
B7 RS 4 Cabriolet was sold in Europe from late 2006 to 2008. He was also available in the US in a limited number of instances a year, and sold at a premium of $2000 over list.
The Audi factory numbers indicate that the B7 RS 4 saloon can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h from 0 to 124 mph in 16.6 seconds. Most European magazines recorded results in line with the comparison of November 2009 the "ultimate sedans", in road & track, which recorded a 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. This is consistent with the pattern of conservatism that is usually found in Audis official performance figures. For the Avant-garde, from 0 to 100 km / h from 0 to 62 mph is achieved in 4.9 seconds. Maximum speed for all variants is "officially" limited by electronics on a mark of 250 km / h 155.3 mph, although some owners report that the speed limiter is rather "liberal", in accordance with the practice of previous Audi "RS" cars, with genuine top speed at 270 km / h 168 km / h recorded.
2.1. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. B7 bodywork and styling. (В7 кузова и стайлинга)
B7 RS 4 is an almost complete departure from previous Audi "RS" cars, as it was initially available as a four-door five-seat sedan / station wagon, with a five-door five-seat avant wagon / hatchback and two-door four-seater convertible version arriving later. Only Audis RS6 had taken this similar route, the sedan and the Avant before, the previous RS 4 and PC2 were only available in Avants.
Made from fully galvanised steel in a monocoque unitary / all-metal housing RS 4 B7 uses a lightweight aluminium on the front wings fenders and hood. The saloon version features a drag coefficient of C D 0.31, from a frontal area of 2.17 m2.
Like its B5 predecessor, visually, the B7 RS 4 differs from its related B7 S4, by having even wider flared front and rear wheel arches wings to allow for the wider axle. Over the B7 A4, it also includes two large lateral front air intakes on two additional side cooling radiators. Trim and roof rails on the estate chrome, but can also be found in black color with the addition of the optic pack which includes a black front grille, exterior trim and the black roof rails on the estate Version. B7 RS 4 also includes an optional adaptive headlights in addition to the standard "xenon plus", bi-xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps that are spinning around corners in combination with the movements of the steering wheel. Also standard are daytime running lights DRL, found in the main headlamp housings, identical related with B7 A4 and S4, and use ordinary tungsten filament lamp. The acoustic Parking system with front and rear sensors is also standard fitment. Unique carbon fibre interior trims, along with the timer on my knees in the Central driver information system, aluminum pedal caps and footrest, and RS 4 logos complete the look.
In the salon, Luggage storage, measured by the method VDA block is 460 liters of 16.2 cubic feet with the rear seats upright, and 720 to 833 liters 25.4 to 29.4 cubic feet with the seats fold depending on configuration. For the Avant-garde, 442 litres 15.6 cubic feet with seats in an upright position under sliding cover load and 1.354 liters 47.8 cubic feet are available with the rear seats folded down the load up to the roof. Kerb weight of the saloon variant starts from 1.650 kg 3.638 pounds depending on configuration.
Bose audio system with ten speakers, with 190 watts output and automatic dynamic noise compensation, which substitutes gala found on early units with "second Concert" radio and single CD player in car entertainment ice equipment. Factory fitted options of ice in addition to the standard Bose to include the "Symphony System II", which contains two radio tuners, single-loading slot six-CD changer and a cassette player are all integrated into a double DIN size system. Navigation options in the RNS-E "navigation system plus Audi", DVD satellite GPS navigation, which includes a foldable wide angle 6.5-inch screen, two SD memory card readers, and MMI-like control logic.
2.2. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. Q7 powertrain. (В7 трансмиссии)
The engine of the B7 RS 4 is based on the existing all-alloy 4.2 l 4.163 CC V8 from the B6 S4 and has many parts, and fuel stratified injection, with the 4.2 FSI V8 engine in the B7. The engine includes new cylinder block construction, and a highly reworked, high-revving variant of the Redline at 8.000 rpm, the Rev limit at 8.250 Rev / min. Code parts and version 079.D and the identification code of BNS.
The same basic engine was used for Audi R8 Audi when I wanted to build my first supercar. However, system camshaft moved to the front of the unit for mid-engine R8.
The engine has increased crankcase breathing, low pressure fuel return system and partition the sump to prevent cavitation of engine lubrication at high engine speeds and high-G turns. It has four valves per cylinder instead of five on the earlier variant and two overhead camshafts per row of cylinders is Quad Cam and these being driven by roller chains with variable valve timing for intake and exhaust valves, along with a cast magnesium alloy fixed tract length intake manifold with adjustable tumble flaps to improve low speed of the internal combustion engine. On 98 Ron 93 Aki super unleaded petrol it produces 309 kW 420 HP 414 HP at 7.800 rpm, giving it a specific power output of 74.2 kW / HP 100.9, 99.5 HP per litre. Based on the weight of 1.680 kg 3.704 lb, resulting power-to-weight 0.184 kWh / kg. This engine produces 430 N ∙ m 317 lbf⋅ft of torque at 5.500 rpm, with 90 percent of torque available between 2.250 and 7.600 rpm. Using less than 95 according to the method of AKI 91 RON standard unleaded fuel slightly reduces engine output, and therefore performance, and slightly worsens fuel economy). The exhaust gas exits through two 4-in-2-in-1 fan-branch alloy steel exhaust manifolds and four-flow metallic sports catalytic converters, two oval exhaust pipes with integral dynamic silencer / muffler valves. The engine is controlled by two Bosch Di-Motronic med 9.1 electronic engine control units operates as a master and slave, because of the high revving nature of the engine, and uses the Bosch e-gas electronic throttle control is also known as drive by wire, containing a throttle device, accelerator pedal and the ECU. The ignition system uses eight individual spark coils, connected using direct ignition with Bosch single electrode iridium or NGK triple electrode long-life spark plugs. Spark advance is controlled by means of four knock sensors. The engine complies with the Euro 4 European emission standards. The sedan version produces 322-329 grams of CO2 per kilometre g / km, and the Avant starts from 324 g / km.
6-speed Getrag manual transmission is the only transmission available. Gear ratios 1st: 3.667, 2nd: 2.211, 3rd: 1.520, 4th: 1.133, 5th: 0.919, 6th: 0.778.
Audi B7 RS 4 was only "RS" Audi powered by a naturally aspirated engine until the Audi RS5 was presented at the Geneva motor show in 2010. In the RS5 also uses a 4.2 litre high revving V8. In the RS5 also dropped the Getrag 6-speed manual in favor of a 7-speed "gear" dual clutch semi-automatic.
2.3. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. Quattro. (Кватро)
Another focus of the B7 RS 4 at the introduction of the latest developments of the brand Audis quattro permanent all-wheel drive. It uses third generation asymmetric / dynamic Torsen T-3 automatic torque biasing differential ATB centre, where the default 40:60 rear torque split in normal conditions. Audi stressed that this would lead to a more neutral response in corners, and a more dynamic driving experience. In addition, the more aggressive the ratio of torque bias the MAF was used and set to 4:1 to 2:1 and later variants 3:1 TBR on a standard A4. This means that one side of the differential can handle up to 80%, while the other side would have to only handle 20% of applied torque.
Front and rear axle differentials are conventional "open" types, with gear ratio of 4.111.
Thrust help the way Audis "electronic differential lock" of EDL, which is a specific function of the Robert Bosch GmbH ESP 8.0 electronic stability programme system. Essential drugs monitor the rotational speeds of the left and right wheels across an individual axle, and if one wheel should rotate faster than the other, exceeding the pre-defined parameters indicating loss of traction, or "wheel spin" on one wheel, the EDL applies the brakes to that individual spinning wheel, and thus transferring torque via open differential to the wheel with the other hand is considered, grip, hence traction. Also included in the ESP 8.0 is "anti slip regulation" ASR - Audis name for traction control systems.
The result of all these features is that under normal conditions of driving straight on dry or even wet road surface the car does not lose traction, even when accelerating at full throttle in first gear.
2.4. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. B7 suspension and steering. (В7 подвеска и рулевое управление)
B7 RS 4 also incorporates Audis "dynamic ride control" DRC "sport suspension" mechanism. shock absorbers for Audi kW, and Central reservoirs / valves KYB Kayaba.
In the RS 4 suspension, a fluid hydraulic connection between the diagonally opposite front and rear suspension shock absorbers front left to right rear and Vice versa is used to counteract vehicle pitch and roll. Lightweight magnesium / aluminum alloy rear suspension arms four arms and virtual steering-axis front, and trapezoidal arm with different length control arms on the rear panel to locate each hub / brake / roadwheel Assembly in a controllable fashion, whilst minimising unsprung masses. Lightweight hollow tubular anti-roll bar standard front and rear. Compared to standard B7 A4 models, the RS 4 with a 30 mm 1.2 in low clearance. An optional "sports suspension plus" lowers the car by 10 mm 0.4 In, and marginally further stiffens the damper rates.
Axle track has also been increased compared to standard А4с, the front widened by 37 mm 1.5 In to 1.559 61.4 mm and the rear by 47 mm 1.9 mm 61.8 1.569 V.
In speed-dependent "Servotronic" variable assistance electro-hydraulic steering protected areas is carried out from a compact flat-bottomed steering wheel, finished in perforated leather with stand-up collar aluminum trim. The steering rack ratio is 13.1:1, and the turning circle is 11.1 metres 36.42 feet.
2.5. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. B7 brakes, wheels and tires. (В7 тормозов, колес и шин)
The standard brakes on the RS 4 are of two-piece construction. Cast iron discs are cross-drilled and radially ventilated and floating on the aluminum sleeve of the disc. Two-piece design disc reduces unsprung weight and reduces the transfer of heat generated by the brake wheel bearings.
Front discs are 365 mm 14.4 in diameter and 34 mm 1.34 in thick, and use gloss black Brembo monoblock eight-versus-piston calipers from the Lamborghini Gallardo, but with a red / silver RS 4 logos. These and gear box come with a cooling airflow directed from NACA ducts located in the front engine undertray.
The rear brakes are drilled, vented and floating 324 of 12.8 mm in 22 mm 0.87 in the iron discs, with gloss black Lucas-Girling mm single-piston floating calipers with an integrated mechanical handbrake mechanism.
Easier and more productive, "Audi ceramic" system front brake was an option from 2007 model year and only with 19-inch wheels. It includes perforated, ventilated, floating in the radial direction and carbon fibre-reinforced silicon carbide C / SIC composite SGL carbon discs, 380 mm 15.0 in diameter and 38 mm 1.50 inch thick, with grey Brembo monoblock six-versus-piston fixed calipers made of aluminum alloy. Discs have a much greater resistance to thermal differences, virtually eliminating brake, and have a duration of five times greater than conventional iron discs. Ceramic brakes also reduce unsprung weight by about 50% and thus increase the steering response and overall handling.
A specially-tuned "sport-biased" Bosch ESP 8.0 electronic stability programme is standard and includes ABS anti-lock system and electronic brake force distribution EBD and emergency braking, VA. This ESP system has three user-selectable settings: the standard full protection mode, increased slip, which turns off the ASR and EDL and ESP fully disabled. A useful feature in the ESP 8.0 is wiping your drive, and in wet weather the ESP system brakes often, but briefly. It removes water from the surface of the disc and the pads, and helps maintain braking performance in dry weather. This operation is undetectable by the driver.
In the UK and Japan, standard wheels are 19 inch alloy wheels 9Jx19" ET29 "7-arm double spoke" with 255 / 35 ZR19 96Y XL with eXtraLoad high-performance tires. This 19" wheel and tire package for North America and some European markets. The factory supplied tyres included continental SportContact 3, Michelin pilot Sport PS2, or Pirelli P-zero Rosso - although many owners have questioned the load-carrying ability of Pirelli from unexplained sidewall failures and dubious dynamic stability opting more durable Michelin for replacement time. A no-cost option 18-inch wheels made of light alloy 8½Jx18" ЕТ24 "5 spokes" with 255 / 40 ZR18 g XL tyres are also available and they are standard in North American markets. Winter package wheel and tire was also available as an option, and is included 245 / 40 R18 action 96v Dunlop SP winter 3D tires.
Direct-acting tyre pressure monitoring system TPMS is a standard fitment. This system monitors the pressure in all four tyres every three seconds, and when loss of pressure is detected, audible and visual warnings are given to alert the driver via the driver information system in a timely manner.
2.6. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. Other B7 notable features. (Другие В7 примечательные особенности)
Other notable characteristics are found as standard equipment on cars for non-North American markets are smaller, flat-bottomed steering wheel, Sport button again, some of the VAG parts bin from a Lamborghini Gallardo, both brakes, but the standard multifunction steering wheel was without the cost of fitting of rekaro shell-type race bucket seats with electric inflatable upper and lower side bolsters.
2.7. B7 type 8E, 2006-2008. B7 crash testing. (Аварии В7 тестирование)
North American Insurance Institute for highway safety IIHS has conducted crash tests of the B7 RS 4S brother, B7 A4, and awarded it "double best choice" for front and side crashes - beating illustrious rivals such as the BMW 3 series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, but the 2012 session of the SOT test small overlap of the A4 were rated poor, customers applying to the 2016 my.
