The Magic Flute (1975 film)

The Magic Flute is Ingmar Bergmans 1975 film version of Mozarts opera Die Zauberflote. It was intended as a television production and was first shown on Swedish television on 1 January 1975, but was followed by a cinema release later that year. The work is widely viewed as one of the most successful films of an opera ever made, and as an unusual item in the directors oeuvre.

Dersu Uzala (1975 film)

Dersu Uzala is a 1975 Soviet-Japanese co-production film directed by Akira Kurosawa, his first non-Japanese-language film and his first and only 70mm film. The film is based on the 1923 memoir Dersu Uzala which took its name from the native trapper by Russian explorer Vladimir Arsenyev, about his exploration of the Sikhote-Alin region of the Russian Far East over the course of multiple expeditions in the early 20th century. Julie is a 1975 Indian romantic drama film directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and written by Chakrapani. The film stars Lakshmi in the title role. It also stars Vikram, Nadira, Rita Bhaduri, Om Prakash, Utpal Dutt and Sridevi. The film was a critical and commercial success. Julie was also a musical blockbuster, with award-winning music by Rajesh Roshan which won him the Filmfare Award for the year. Trust is a 1976 Finnish-Soviet historical drama film directed by Edvin Laine and Viktor Tregubovich. The film portrays the events leading up to the Finnish Declaration of Independence from Russia in 1917.

Bug (1975 film)

Bug is a 1975 American horror film in Panavision, directed by Jeannot Szwarc and written by William Castle and Thomas Page, from Pages novel The Hephaestus Plague. It was the last film Castle was involved in before his death in 1977. The film starred Bradford Dillman, Joanna Miles and Richard Gilliland.

Love and Death

Love and Death is a 1975 comedy film by Woody Allen. It is a satire on Russian literature starring Allen and Diane Keaton as Boris and Sonja, Russians living during the Napoleonic Era who engage in mock-serious philosophical debates.   • May: In order to create the necessary special effects for his film, Star Wars, George Lucas forms Industrial Light and Magic.
  • March 26: The film version of The Whos Tommy premieres in London.
  • December: Warner Bros. reorganize following John Calleys decision to step down as president-COO. Frank Wells becomes president again and shares CEO duties with Ted Ashley who also returns as chairman.
  • August 14: The cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show premieres in London.
  • November 23: Sneak Previews, the first American film review show, premieres and launches the careers of critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. They will remain a team, and a staple among film critics, through various programs for the next twenty-four years.
  • June 20: Jaws is released and becomes the highest-grossing movie of all-time and the highest-grossing movie of the year and the first movie to earn $100 million in US and Canadian theatrical rentals, setting the standard for future blockbusters.
