Probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX56 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the DDX56 gene.

This gene encodes a member of the dead box protein family. Dead box proteins, characterized by conservative motif ASP-STU-Ala-ASP, dead putative RNA helicase. They are involved in a number of cellular processes, including changes of the secondary structure of RNA, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome Assembly. On the basis of their distribution and some members of this family is thought to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis and cellular growth and division. The protein encoded by this gene shows activity of the ATPase in the presence of polynucleotides and associates with nucleoplasmic 65 years of preribosomal particles. This gene may be involved in the synthesis of ribosomes, most likely during the Assembly of the 60-ies of the large ribosomal subunit.
