ⓘ Ophiasis

Ophiasis is a form of alopecia areata characterized by the loss of hair in the shape of a wave at the circumference of the head.

It got its name from the "office" which is the Greek word for snake because of the obvious resemblance to the snake-form and pattern of hair loss.

The term "sisaipho" is used to describe the opposite. Sisaipho is almost the reverse spelling of ophiasis. It is also called the "ophiasis inversus".

This form of hair loss ".the goal of natural hair follicles, leading to hair loss." although the immune system can attack the hair follicle melanocytes, dermal papilla cells and keratinocytes,” but the Foundation cause of this disease is yet to be confirmed.
