According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.49 square miles 112.64 km 2, of which, 39.58 square miles 102.51 km 2 of it is land and 3.91 square miles 10.13 km 2 is water. Included in the town is Embden Pond.

Embden pond is a good habitat for Smallmouth bass, brown trout, Atlantic salmon sushi. Ponds shoreline is heavily developed with residences and seasonal camps. There is a public boat ramp at the southern end of the pond near where the pond overflows on the river carrabasset valley 4 miles 6.4 km South of the pond and 1 mile 1.6 km upstream from the confluence of carrabassett valley with the Kennebec river.
